LOCATION

ABOUT THE AREA OF AWH

awh locationAWH is located in Alfonso, adjacent to the famous year-round resort Tagaytay with its beautiful vistas of mountains, Taal Lake with its semi-dormant volcanoes and stunning sunrises and sunsets. It is about a 1.5 hour drive due south of Manila International Airport and enjoys a rear-round pleasant climate because of its location in the highlands at about 700 meters elevation.

The unique AWH site itself consists of a largely wooded 1.5 hectare secure and gated complex which is also protected as a bird sanctuary. The site’s infrastructure is located within the upper 0.75 hectare and consists of a main residence, a luxury seven bedroom wheelchair accessible annex with wireless internet connection in each room, library, conference room, meditation/healing rooms, recreational facilities, organic herb and vegetable gardens and farming, fruit and coffee trees and a 13 meter tall observatory deck with a 360 degree view of the surrounding natural areas. The observatory also provides the opportunity to enjoy beautiful sunrises, sunsets, and star-lit nights in solitude or in social groups. The annex with its extensive open and covered decks and adjacent spa being constructed was so designed as to take full advantage of the beautiful natural surroundings. During the firefly season (approximately June  Eearly December) outdoor lighting is controlled to protect the firefly habitat.

The lower 0.75-hectare is largely a forested site with meadows and meandering pathways and is designated as a wildlife habitat area and firefly restoration site. Activities here are largely limited to daytime nature appreciation/nature walks/nature studies, meditation and bird watching and other passive recreational activities such as visual arts workshops inclusive of outdoor art and painting sessions. It also features a garden tea house and small nursery where one can interact with nature in an appreciative and relaxed atmosphere.

The rainy season begins at the end of May and ends around the middle of November. There is only one more season, which is dry. The warmest months are April and May. The most comfortable months are December, January and February.

NATURE AT AWH

The coffee trees are flowering from January through April and the sweet fragrance from the flowers spread throughout the neighborhood.
Unlike in Manila the area has minimal light pollution. The night sky is stunningly beautiful even showing the Milky Way.
AWH is surrounded by nature where a sensitive firefly habitat still exists and is being protected within its boundaries. Fireflies are still common during the rainy season from about June through November and at times some of the trees on site look like Christmas trees being lit up by fireflies.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHILIPPINES

It is only about 4.5 hours away by airplane from Japan to the Philippines. The Republic of the Philippines consists of 7,107 islands. Its population is approximately 90 million. Around 85% of the population is catholic, due to the long domination by Spanish colonization.

Incidentally, the medium age of the Philippines is 22 years old. Comparing to 43 years of medium age in Japan, it indicates that the number of children is increasing drastically.
